How to Find YOU in the Empty Space
No matter what you have or haven’t been through in life, sometimes there comes a point where you find yourself wondering what the fuck to do next.
There’s this empty feeling that seems to consume everything. Maybe it’s the end of a job, a career change, getting out of a toxic relationship, the end of a friendship, a million different little things that feel like the end of an era & leave you feeling a little lost and confused about what comes next.
What do you even do in that space??
Everything feels… not quite right. You’re not sure what to do, where to go, or how to start.
Even though it feels kind of shitty in the moment, times like this are actually a perfect and exciting opportunity. This is the space where you find YOU.
Instead of looking at it as though you have nothing going on or just nothing, take the chance to explore what you could have. There’s literally no better time.
It’s not about just filling the empty space. It’s about getting a real chance to completely shape your life exactly how YOU want it to be, without all the pressure of trying to fit it into a box that fits your life. It’s a blank canvas waiting for you to paint your future.
All of that might sound or feel really overwhelming, but the beauty of it is, you’re not on anyone’s time table but yours. You can take your time with it, explore new avenues, try new things find out what really sparks you. Or you can run with the first thing that crosses your plate. It’s entirely up to you.
Finding that next thing is probably the hardest part. Just getting started with something new or different can always be a little scary, especially if you’re attaching high stakes to it. So don’t.
Use this time to truly find what lights you up: what kinda od things inspire you? What drives or motivates you? Are you someone who’s money driven and want to find something that brings in extra income? Or are you drawn to the more creative or spiritual side of things and want something that fulfills you?
What about something that does both??
I do truly think we should all have something we do purely for enjoyment, but you can monetize damn near anything these days. I won’t tell you which way is the right way. This is your life to design.
And that’s just it — this life is YOURS. You can get all the best advice from all the most successful people and none of it will make any difference if you aren’t IN IT. Be present in your life, show up how you want to show up, and do it every single day.
As Michelle Obama said, “life is practice.” You decide who you want to be or how you want to act and you practice that thing until it doesn’t feel like practice anymore.
I want you to do an exercise.
Take out a notebook or sheet of paper and write down every single thing that interests you or brings you joy in some way. Every little thing.
On another page, write out all your dreams and what you’d like to accomplish in life, no matter how far fetched it may feel.
Is there any overlap? Is there at least one thing you could start doing that both interests you and will help you achieve one of your dreams?? That’s where you start.
Start with the things that FEEL right. The things that help you feel alive again and give you some direction. Start with the thing that’s going to move you where you want to be.
If it’s big, break it down into smaller pieces. But just START.
One thing that’s always certain in life is that time is a finite resource. We only get so much. Make the most of yours.
